ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari has said that the ministry is planning to table an anti-violence bill in the next National Assembly (NA) session.
While addressing a seminar organised on police reforms and gender-based violence, Mazari said that the federal government is making the police force a citizen-centric and gender-sensitive after solving their challenges regarding infrastructure, legalities and attitude.
She claimed that the police force will be depoliticised after replacing the 157-year-old colonial law of 1861 with modern laws by introducing a merit-based system.
The minister said that the police is a low resourced institution and there is a need to impart training to the law enforcers for behaving effectively with torture victims, besides providing it all the necessary facilities.
While emphasising on police reforms, Mazari announced to introduce a new law in the Capital on the lines of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police Act 2017.
