Earthquake jolts Lahore, surrounding areas

The earthquake tremors on Sunday morning jolted Lahore and surrounding cities, causing people to rush out of their houses.

Tremors were also felt in Pakpattan, Jaranwala, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Gujrat, Khanewal, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Multan and other cities of the province.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the epicentre of the quake was 24 kilometres away from Lahore in East with 4.1-magnitude on Richter scale.

On September 1, several cities across Punjab, including Lahore, were jolted by a minor earthquake. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.3 on the Richter scale.

Fortunately, no loss of lives was reported in the wake of the quake; however, a number of people were seen vacating their homes and offices in panic.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the epicentre of the quake was located 30 kilometres north of Nankana Sahib, at a depth of 10 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface.
