Woman refuses to ‘share husband’, shoots him dead

A woman fatally shot her husband, who later died at a government-run hospital, for having illicit relations with another woman in Jahanian village of Punjab’s Khanewal district, according to a report published in an English daily.

According to the details in the report, 21-year-old Ali Raza, a resident of village 113-R, married Rabia, a resident of village 9T about one-and-a-half year ago.

The police, while being quoted in the report, said the couple developed differences soon after they tied the knot as Rabia suspected that her husband had illicit relations with another woman.

Raza’s family, however, denied the allegations, saying the couple had contracted love marriage.

Three days ago, Rabia asked her husband to take her to her parents, the officer added. Raza was taking his wife to his in-laws on a motorcycle, when Rabia asked him to pull over at a deserted place in village 6T.

As soon Raza pulled over at the roadside, Rabia allegedly pulled out a gun and shot her husband. While Raza lost consciousness, Rabia started shouting that her husband has been critically injured in an accident, the report said.

He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Jahanian, where he died on Monday. A postmortem examination confirmed that Raza was shot and there was no accident, according to the police.

The suspect has been arrested, while the body has been handed over to the family for burial. Further investigation is ongoing, the police said.
