The discovery of polio virus in sewage samples at outfall areas threatens Punjab’s polio-free status, a local media outlet reported on Friday.

Health department officials say the virus has been present in the area since June but it was also detected in samples collected from Multan Road in December last year.

National Institute of Health (NIH), which analysed the samples suggests that the virus may have come from Kabul or Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
