ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Law and Information minister Ali Zafar on Wednesday said that a summary seeking session of National Assembly between August 12 and 14 has been submitted.
Talking to media outside the Supreme Court (SC), the minister said that the session is likely to be called in the second week of August with the newly elected members of National Assembly (NA) to take the oath.
He further said that the speaker and deputy speaker of NA will be appointed during the session.
According to the law, the new session of the NA is supposed to be called before August 15, but the session cannot be called unless the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issues a notification.
Talking about ECP, the Zafar said that according to the election body the delay in the result occurred due to the failure of Results Transmission System (RTS).
“The inquiry into the alleged failure of RTS will reveal the reasons behind the failure,” the minister said.
After intense criticism, the ECP had blamed a collapse of the RTS for the unusual delay in the results on the polls day.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ECP refuted rumours hinting at the possibility that there might be a delay in the formation of assemblies. The statement mentions that things are proceeding as outlined in the Elections Act 2017. Successful candidates submitted details of their campaign expenditure within 10 days of polling and a notification was issued on August 7.
It adds that independent candidates will announce their party affiliations within three days of the above-mentioned notification. The deadline for doing so has been set as August 9.
Upon declaration of party affiliation, a limited number of seats shall be allotted to each party. According to the provisions outlined in article 51 of the Act, the allotment shall take place on August 11.
