ECP finalises punishments for negligence by polling staff

ISLAMABAD: Punishments for negligence by polling staff were finalised by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday.

Any changes by the polling staff to the documents will be treated as a crime while tampering with or breaking ballot box seals will be considered the same.

A violation of these rules can lead to imprisonment for up to six months and/or a Rs0.1 million fine.

Taking any actions that affects voters or outright forcing them has also been declared illegal. Imprisonment for up to two years and/or Rs0.1 million fine can be imposed for the aforementioned violation.

General elections are scheduled to be held across the country on July 25.
