PML-N’s petition seeking removal of NAB chief declared admissible

A petition seeking the removal of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal was declared admissible for hearing by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday, a private media outlet reported.

As per the details, the petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Noor Awan, over allegations of money laundering against PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, was earlier returned by Registrar Office after raising objections.

The petitioner had pleaded that allegations of money laundering had tarnished Nawaz’s image while stating that the anti-graft watchdog could not function biasedly under the supervision of the incumbent chairman.

Awan—in his petition—further stated that NAB’s press release [on the money laundering issue] and the incidents that followed, “enunciated a negative perception of the NAB chief about Nawaz”.

The petition also urged the NAB chairman to apologise to Nawaz.
