Ehtaram-e-Ramzan Amendment bill in limbo: report

Ehtaram-e-Ramzan Amendment 2017 bill, which aims to fine people found smoking or eating openly during the holy month, is yet to be presented in the parliament for the approval, reported a local English newspaper.

The delay has led to the speculation that the bill will not be presented before the parliament during the tenure of the current government.

Earlier this year, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government increased the penalty for violating the eating restrictions during the holy month by up to a 100%. This move came after the Ministry of Religious Affairs forwarded a summary to cabinet division to increase the fines against the violators during fasting hours.
