KARACHI: A former leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Saleem Shahzad was acquitted in a ransacking case on Tuesday after the prosecution failed to present any proof against him.
While hearing the case, additional district and sessions judge (East) observed that no concrete proof had been presented before the court which is reason enough to acquit Shahzad in the ransacking case.
The court had earlier acquitted Shahzad in three other cases which were lodged against him in the 1990s at the Malir and Landhi police stations pertaining to murder, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and rioting.
However, he is still facing criminal trials in anti-terrorism court and a case pertaining to harbouring and treating alleged terrorists at Dr Ziauddin Hospital.
