KARACHI: Amid the bustle of lawmakers outside and inside Sindh Assembly due to Senate elections, people with disabilities once again protested for the increase in job quotas reserved for them.
During the protest, two people fell unconscious while others engaged in a confrontation with police deployed outside the assembly.
A similar protest was held by people with disabilities at the same place in November 2017 during which they demanded increase of quota from 2 percent to 5 percent.
In December 2016, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah did announce the increase in job quota after meeting with the delegation of a welfare organisation for disabled people but the announcement has not yet been implemented.
In February, the job interviews for disabled candidates were arranged in Hyderabad but no facilities were provided to help them to reach interview rooms which were situated on the first floor of the building.
