HEC is investigating 59 plagiarism cases: report

ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commision(HEC) adviser Mohammad Ismail has said that 59 plagiarism cases are currently under investigation, with 171 cases investigated since 2007, during a meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances, reported Dawn.

The committee was informed that HEC is also taking action against those who falsely accuse researchers of plagiarism. ‘Turnitin,’ a plagiarism- checking software recommended by the HEC and used by universities provides a similarity index with previously published work in order to assess plagiarism. 19 percent similarity is allowed per research paper but only five percent is allowed from a single source, the official said.
