GB lawmakers concerned over excessive delay in political reforms: report

GILGIT: The treasury and opposition members in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Legislate Assembly (GBLA) on Tuesday passed a resolution over the excessive delay in announcement of political and constitutional reforms in the region, reported a local English daily.

The GBLA demanded the federal government to share and implement the recommendations of a constitutional committee headed by Sartaj Aziz, the then adviser to the PM on foreign affairs.

Speaker Fida Nashad headed the session and the opposition member Kacho Imtiaz Haider presented the resolution, which requested the parliamentary committee recommendations to be shared with the GBLA members.

Education Minister Mohammad Ibrahim Sanai, while speaking to the committee, said that bringing political reforms in GB was a national issue, not a party or a government issue only. Opposition member Sikandar Ali said GB people had been deprived of constitutional rights ever since partition.
