ISLAMABAD: During a consultative meeting chaired by HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat on Tuesday it was decided that a university will be established in Khushab for students of the district and adjoining areas.
The meeting was attended by, National Assembly members from Khushab, , Minister for Archeology Malik Muhammad Asif Bha Awan, Dr. Sarwat N Mirza, , Arid Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Dr Manzoom Akhtar, University of Education Registrar Mr Muhammad Kaleem, Dr Mazhar Saeed, Tariq Iqbal, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan and Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan.
The University of Khushab will be established by merging the existing sub-campuses of University of Education and University of Arid Agriculture, while the additional land of 30 acres at Jauharabad Khushab, 359 kanals at Gharimukin Stadium and four marlas at Quaidabad will be transferred in the name of the proposed University.
It was also agreed that the parliamentarians will pursue the matter with the Punjab Government for its enactment from the provincial legislature to facilitate launching of next admission by February 2018 by the University.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said that immediate needs of the proposed university will be borne by HEC while its development projects will be considered under Public Sector Development Projects.
