Establishing knowledge driven role of graduates most difficult modern challenge: Jhagra

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said Tuesday that the Islamia College University Peshawar after having become a public sector university in 2008, is now ready to face new challenges.

The governor said this while addressing the 5th Convocation of Islamia College University. He said that the varsity also had the privilege of competing in a wide range of disciplines both at the national and international levels.

In all, 160 graduates were awarded PhD, MPhil, masters and bachelor degrees in various disciplines. Amongst them 30 students were awarded gold medals for achieving distinctions in their respective disciplines. “In the light of today’s event coupled with many success stories in regard to the institution, there exists every hope that the Islamia College University would maintain the level of its glorious accomplishments,” the governor said.

He also congratulated the management for the establishment of four new centres of graduate study, including the Centre of Information Technology Industrial Innovation, Centre for Omic Sciences, Centre of Material Research and Centre for Gandhara Study at Islamia College University.

Governor Jhagra said that establishing new centres by the institution were some new milestones which would open new avenues of development in the region. “Establishing knowledge driven role of the graduates for betterment of our beloved country in particular and the humanity in general, is one of the most difficult challenges of the modern day,” he stressed.

He also pointed out that there could never be any substitute for quality, and this cherished objective in relation to education could only be achieved if it was supplemented by initiatives regarding character building of the students. The parents must inculcate in the minds of the future generation that we all have tremendous responsibility to steer this nation towards a safe, secure and prosperous future, he added.

The governor congratulated the graduates for having completed their studies at the prestigious and historic institution, while also reminding them that their parents were equal stakeholders in their achievements. “You owe your success to this great institution, your family and the nation. We wish that you would be able to give back to the society after achieving success,” he said.

Earlier, Islamia College University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Habib Ahmad, while presenting the annual report, highlighted the achievements of the institution. The ceremony was largely attended by heads of various educational institutions, parents of the graduates and distinguished figures from different walks of life.
