Khawar Bhatti removed as Punjab additional advocate general for slapping policeman

LAHORE: Khawar Ikram Bhatti, who had slapped a senior policeman during Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar’s hearing before the accountability court in Islamabad in a graft reference last week, has been removed as Punjab’s additional advocate general.

Media reports confirmed a notification has been issued in this regard.

Khawar Bhatti was seen slapping a senior policeman when police officials deployed at the Judicial Complex stopped lawyers belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz from forcing their way into the courtroom.

Also, Khawar Bhatti was on Monday barred from appearing in the court of a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Judge Ebadur Rehman Lodhi barred Bhatti from appearing in his court, remarking that it was not a good tradition of a government lawyer slapping a police official. The judge also observed that government lawyers were employees of the state and not any political party. The judge also asked to appoint a non-political lawyer in his court.
