A bridge built on the Kabul River collapsed in Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, resulting in the death of one man.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sayam told a private news channel that the incident occurred when a truck carrying cement was crossing the bridge constructed over Kabul River at Sardaryab.

The 10-wheeler truck carrying 1,600 bags of cement was on its way from Peshawar to Charsadda, and fell into the river following the collapse.

Besides the death of one man, two others were injured in the incident and they were shifted to district headquarters hospital, Charsadda.

Hospital sources said that all three men involved in the accident were travelling in the truck, although they are yet to be identified.

According to reports, following the collapse of a section of the bridge, traffic was diverted to the one-way road of the bridge.

It is crucial to mention here that the bridge, which connects Peshawar with Charsadda, was built in 1939 and was in a dilapidated condition.
