Imran terms Dar as ‘economic hitman’, calls for resignation

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, on Thursday, called for an immediate resignation of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the light of a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference against him.

Khan while addressing a press conference said that Dar is “Pakistan’s economic hitman”, as the economy of the country has never been this poor.

He said despite the initiation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, the country lacks foreign investments and trade deficit has touched the mark of $30 billion.

Countering the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) claims of developing the economy, he said there were more investments during Asif Ali Zardari and Pervez Musharraf-led governments.

Khan asked the PML-N government that “please tell me what progress have you brought? There has been no investment and direct taxation did not occur either.”

Ishaq Dar kept on saying that the tax revenue has increased but revenue was only increased by the government by increasing taxes on basic good, he said.

Circular debt in the country’s electrical generation is on the rise despite a decrease in global oil prices, he said.

Earlier, NAB’s executive board in a meeting agreed to file three corruption references against the Sharif family and one reference against Ishaq Dar.

These references were filed following the Supreme Court’s Panamagate verdict, which disqualified the Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister and also directed the NAB to file reference against Nawaz Sharif, his children, son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar and Ishaq Dar.
