UNSC meets in wake of North Korea’s nuclear test

The United Nations Security Council meets in New York on Monday to discuss consequences in the wake of North Korea’s nuclear detonation.

The meeting is being convened on the request of United States, Japan, France, Britain and South Korea.

British Prime Minister Theresa May in a statement has called for new measures.

In reaction to Pyongyang’s nuclear test, South Korea is preparing fresh military drills with the United States and ramping up its ballistic missile defence.

Meanwhile, Russia and China have simultaneously urged North Korea to suspend its missile development and the US and South Korea their joint military exercises.
