Authorities appoint new doctors as YDA strike enters day 8

LAHORE: Government appointed new doctors in place of the doctors that are protesting, as the Young Doctors Association (YDA) strike enters its eighth day.

This happened after the negotiations between the government and the doctors failed without any results.

Around 66 doctors were fired by the authorities, whereas action against over 70 was taken, as the YDA refused to treat patients in government hospitals across Punjab.

Over 15 doctors and 112 post-graduate (PG) trainees have now been appointed by the government in place of those who were ousted or taken an action against.

The YDA, in a press conference conducted on Saturday, warned that doctors would stop tending to patients, even in the emergency wards, if the government refused to cater to their demands.

The YDA wants the government to suspend the provincial health secretary, Najam Ahmad Shah from his position and to revoke the Centralised Induction Policy (CIP), that was introduced by him.

Another one of their demands is that they want fair systems to be set in place for both government and private college graduates, which, according to them, is not the case right now.

YDA activists approached political leaders including Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Pervaiz Elahi and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch, after their negotiations with the government failed.
