Marvi Memon has been appointed to the seat of World Bank’s advisory council on gender and development, according to Radio Pakistan.

She is in Washington DC, to attend an annual meeting convened between the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. She has said that her new position is an honour for both her and Pakistan.
She briefed the meeting about the objectives of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and urged the World Bank to make use of Pakistan’s National Data Registry compiled by BISP in their developmental work.
Memon, is a former banker and entrepreneur who joined the 13th National Assembly of Pakistan on a PML-Q ticket. She joined PML-N in 2012 and is the chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
Known for being an outspoken politician, Marvi Memon is also recognised as a vocal campaigner for human rights. She is specially known for her legislative work on the crime of acid attacks.
She along with Begum Shahnaz Sheikh and Advocate Anusha Rehman, tabled the the Criminal Law Amendment Bill, 2011.
