Police bust snatchers’ gang

Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad Police has busted an organized gang involved in snatching mobile phones and handbags from women at gunpoint, a police spokesman said.

He said that IGP Tariq Masood Yasin directed SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani and all the police officials to ensure effective measures to curb street crime. Following his directions, SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas constituted a special team including Sub Inspector Tariq Rauf, ASI Zulfiqar and constables Sikandar Hyat, Sher Khan, Samiullah and Ghulam Mustafa. The team members showed great interest towards their special assignment under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas and busted an organized gang involved in snatching mobile phones and handbags/purses from people present in the streets and road corners.

The police team also recovered a motorbike, two pistols (30 bore and 32 bore), a knuckle duster and seven snatched mobile phones from their possession. The gangsters have been identified as Muslim Khan s/o Gulistan Khan r/o Sokai Bazaar Jalalabad Afghanistan and Ali s/o Azhar Ali r/o Nowshehra.

They confessed the crimes in sectors F10, F11, E11 and G13 Islamabad and stealing of a motorcycle from the area of E11 as well. The SIU team is checking the records of concerned police stations and further investigation is underway.

Senior officials have appreciated good efforts of SIU team while SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani announced to award commendation certificates and cash to the police team as its encouragement.
