‘Freedom for Kashmir’ poster appears in JNU

A poster demanding freedom for Kashmir and Palestine sprang up at the campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

The poster had “Freedom for Kashmir! Free Palestine! Right to Self-Determination, Long Live DSU” written on it and it was pasted on the wall by the Democratic Students Union (DSU), KMS reported.

Some students noticed the poster on the wall of the new block of the School of Social Sciences (SSS) and informed the administration of the university. The JNU authorities asked the university security to remove the poster.

DSU’s former members—Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and others—had organised an event at the JNU last year against the hanging of Kashmiri youth Muhammad Afzal Guru. During the event, anti-India slogans were raised. Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and former student union president Kanhaiya Kumar were booked under sedition for the event but were later granted bail by courts.
