25 peacocks die in Tharparkar

THARPARKAR: At least 25 peacocks have died due to the disease Ranikhet in the Tharparkar area according to wild life officials.

8 peacocks have died in Bakho while 17 have died in Bagal. Besides, dozens of others are ill due to the disease. Earlier in January, 9 more peacocks had died in two days due to the disease.

Wildlife authorities said they did not have enough vaccine to treat the peacocks and that they had been forced to dilute the medicine at times because of which they were not able to treat all of the birds.

People of the locality however said the relevant authorities did not do anything to prevent the animals from dying and that their methods of treating the ailing birds was halfhearted.
