The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Wednesday accused Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) of threatening renowned Sufi singer Amjad Sabri, who was gunned down in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi earlier in the day.
“A conscienceless gang of Khayaban-e-Sahar was threatening Shaheed Amjad Sabri and asking him to visit their place,” Nadeem Nusrat, a senior MQM leader, said while referring to the PSP’s main office.
He claimed that Sabri had been receiving threats for the last four weeks.
Reacting to Nusrat’s allegations, PSP spokesman Iftikhar Alam said that there was no truth behind the MQM’s claims.
Alam said that the PSP had not organised any programme in which Amjad Sabri would have been invited.
He hit back at the Nadeem Nusrat, saying MQM’s politics was based on hatred and violence.
After Nadeem Nusrat, MQM’s Mustafa Azizabadi claimed in a tweet that Sabri was receiving death threats since he declined an offer to join PSP.
He alleged that Sabri was receiving threats since he decided not to join PSP, adding that Sabri had expressed his concerns a few days back with Muttahida s leaders as well.
Reacting to Azizabadi’s claim, PSP’s Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that Sabri was the son of the nation and a very prominent personality. “There’s no basis to such stories and it’s an attempt to malign PSP,” he added.
