Imposition of section 144 disappoints Manchar Lake visitors

Thousands of people on way to Manchar Lake for picnic were stopped by police on Saturday as the authorities have banned swimming and bathing in the lake by imposing section 144.

The irked picnickers accompanied by their families protested saying they had travelled all the way from distant places including Karachi for sightseeing in Manchar Lake but they were deprived of the opportunity for no fault of theirs.

Official sources said the deputy commissioner had imposed a ban in view of scores of tragic deaths at Seaview, Karachi. Thatta police went into action on late Friday night and stopped hundreds of buses and cars leading towards Manchar Lake much to the disappointment of the picnickers and sight watchers.

The enraged picnickers said they, accompanied by their families, felt quite harassed at not being allowed to go even for sight seeing. They said they had spent thousands of rupees to reach all the way from Karachi and other distant places and protested against the imposition of section 144.
