KARACHI-
A petition was filed on Wednesday in Sindh High Court (SHC) against the alleged abduction and murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Mohammad Salman.
The petition was filed by Salman’s father and party leader Asif Hasnain, who alleged that the law enforcing agencies were using the name of targeted operations for purging Karachi of criminal elements while actually carrying out extrajudicial killings.
The petitioner made Additional IG Shahid Hayat as respondent in the petition.
Hasnain said that no case had been registered in relation to Salman’s killing, adding his family members were also being harassed.
MQM Worker Salman was a resident of Korangi Sector 75 of Karachi.
He was allegedly taken into police custody from the city’s Korangi Crossing area on February 3.
On February 5, Salman was found dead in an area near Quaidabad.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah assured the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain on a call on Tuesday that his party’s reservations would be addressed.
The assurance followed an ultimatum by MQM to Sindh authorities to take a ‘tough strategy’ against the ‘extrajudicial killings’ of its workers.
