Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Wednesday expressed reservations over the appointment of Justice (r) Bhagwandas as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.
On the issue of the NAB chairman’s appointment, Dr Shireen Mazari said the PTI had the highest regard and admiration for Justice (r) Bhagwandas.
“We recognize he is a gentleman with excellent credentials and commitment and has done Pakistan proud. However, the PTI’s position is that making individual-specific alterations in the laws/constitution is not acceptable as it undermines norms, rules and procedures for the future by setting a precedence that others may exploit politically.”
Therefore, Dr Mazari concluded, to seek to alter prevailing norms in order to accommodate Justice (r) Bhagwandas as NAB chairman would be doing a great injustice to Justice (r) Bhagwandas himself, since he has always upheld norms, rules and procedures.
