Several suspected militants, 42 prison escapees arrested

The police managed to re-arrest 42 prison escapees on Wednesday, following the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants’ July 29 attack on Dera Ismail (DI) Khan Central Jail.

A police constable taken away by the TTP militants during the attack was also brought back by the law enforcement agencies.

“The law enforcement agencies have succeeded in arresting several suspected militants from Kulachi tehsil,” DI Khan Commissioner Mushtaq Jadoon told Pakistan Today.

Jadoon said a search operation and raids were being conducted to arrest the escaped prisoners still at large.

Keeping in view the need of the citizens, a two-hour relaxation was made in the curfew, he said, adding that restoration activities were in progress inside the jail, as the militants blasted the locks of some barracks and set fire to the records and other things inside the jail.

According to the commissioner, the security guard had opened the main gate of the jail when the militants attacked.

In response to a question, Jadoon confirmed action against policemen and jail officials responsible.

He said the jail superintendent, deputy superintendent police and station house officers (SHOs) of three police stations were suspended and put under interrogation.
