The fourth death anniversary of film actor Ilyas Kashmiri was observed on Monday. Kashmiri performed in more than 600 films during his career that spanned five decades. Born in Lahore in 1925, he started his career with the lead role in ‘Malika’ but some showbiz critics say his first film was ‘Abida’ which was produced by Hind Pictures. He did his first Punjabi film ‘Mundri’ in 1949. During his career Kashmiri appeared as a hero, comedian, and side hero but earned fame for his portrayal of negative characters. He worked with many outstanding actors including Santosh Kumar, Mazhar Shah, Sultan Rahi, Anjuman, Munawar Zareef, Rangeela and others.
‘Anjaam’, ‘Shuhrat’, ‘Sardar tey Murad’, ‘Mukhra Chan Warga’, ‘Hath Jori’, ‘Ustad Shagird’, ‘Ishq Par Zor Nahe’, ‘Hatim’, ‘Yakey Wali’, ‘Laila Majnoon’, ‘Mahi Munda’, ‘Paidagir’, ‘Banarsi Thagg’, and ‘Gama BA are among his famous films. He died on 12 December 2007 in Lahore at the age of 84.
