Punjab orders immediate recall of cough syrup over safety concerns

LAHORE: The Punjab government has ordered the immediate recall of a batch of cough syrup from pharmacies and medical stores after laboratory testing raised concerns about its quality.

The Punjab Drug Control Directorate issued the recall notice after identifying the affected batch during routine quality checks. Authorities instructed distributors, pharmacies and healthcare facilities to stop its sale and remove the product from circulation.

Officials advised members of the public not to use the recalled batch and urged anyone who has purchased it to consult a pharmacist or healthcare provider if they have concerns.

The department said inspections are under way to ensure compliance with the recall order, warning that legal action could be taken against those found continuing to stock or sell the affected medicine.

Health authorities have also asked pharmacists and distributors to return the recalled stock through the appropriate supply chain while investigations into the batch continue.

The Punjab Drug Control Directorate said further updates would be issued if additional regulatory action becomes necessary.
