Former PCB chief executive Wasim Khan appointed Fiba Asia executive director

KARACHI: Former Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Wasim Khan has been appointed executive director of Fiba Asia and is set to formally assume the post in January 2027, the regional arm of basketball’s world governing body announced.

Khan, who left his role earlier this year as the International Cricket Council’s general manager of cricket, has already joined Fiba Asia to begin the transition process before taking over from outgoing executive director Hagop Khajirian.

According to the announcement, Khan has started working with the organisation as executive director-designate to help ensure an orderly handover ahead of officially stepping into the position in January next year. In his new role, he will supervise the development and administration of basketball across Asia, where 44 national federations fall under Fiba Asia’s umbrella.

A British-Pakistani sports administrator, Khan brings experience from a number of senior roles in cricket governance. Before joining the ICC, he served as PCB chief executive, where he oversaw cricket operations during an important period for Pakistan cricket. Earlier in his career, he was also chief executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the UK youth cricket charity Chance to Shine.

The appointment marks a shift for Khan from international cricket administration to basketball governance. It also places him among the relatively few sports administrators of Pakistani origin to have held senior executive roles in two major international sporting organisations.
