Iran, UAE to restart direct flights from July 1

TEHRAN: Direct flights between Iran and the United Arab Emirates are set to resume from July 1 after aviation authorities in both countries cleared the route, according to Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation.

Organisation spokesman Majid Akhavan said the required permits had been issued by Iranian and Emirati aviation authorities following a suspension that lasted several months amid regional military tensions. He said services would begin with Iranian airlines, while other carriers could be added later after further review.

Akhavan also said the reopening of other international air routes was still being examined and would depend on regulatory approval. The flight link had been disrupted during a period of heightened conflict in the region.

Separately, an Iranian trade official said containers delayed under what he described as wartime conditions were now being cleared from the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port for shipment to Iran. The official said trade was expected to gradually recover to pre-war levels. Iran’s state news agency IRNA also reported that cargo clearance had resumed after US strikes on multiple Iranian sites and a reported attack on a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
