BHC stays proceedings in treason case against Achakzai

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Thursday suspended all proceedings in a first information report (FIR) lodged against senior opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai over alleged seditious remarks.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kamran Khan Malakhail and Justice Gul Hassan Tareen issued the stay order while hearing a petition filed by the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief, who has sought the quashing of the case.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Malakhail raised questions about the legal route adopted by the petitioner in bringing the matter before the court.

The report did not provide further details about the arguments made in court or the contents of the FIR beyond the allegation that it concerned seditious remarks attributed to Achakzai.
