Australia name uncapped trio for Pakistan and Bangladesh white-ball tours

MELBOURNE: Australia have included three uncapped players in their squads for upcoming white-ball tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh, with 19-year-old batter Oliver Peake, all-rounder Liam Scott and left-arm spinning all-rounder Joel Davies all earning opportunities.

According to the squad announcement, Peake and Scott have received their first call-ups, while Davies has been selected in Australia’s T20 squad for the first time. Veteran T20 all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been left out, while Marcus Stoinis has also been dropped.

Australia are scheduled to play three one-day internationals against Pakistan in Rawalpindi and Lahore from May 30 before heading to Bangladesh in June for three ODIs in Dhaka and three T20 internationals in Chattogram.

ODI captain Pat Cummins and fellow fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will not take part in the tours as they rest after featuring in the Indian Premier League. In Cummins’ absence, T20 captain Mitchell Marsh will lead the ODI side. Marsh has been named captain of all three squads.

New faces and returning players

Peake, who has captained Australia Under-19s, is set to be introduced to senior international cricket during the Pakistan leg of the tour. However, he has not been included for the Bangladesh matches, when several senior players are due to return after IPL commitments, including Travis Head, Cooper Connolly and Ben Dwarshuis.

Scott, 25, has been named in both ODI squads for Pakistan and Bangladesh. Davies, 22, has been selected for the Bangladesh T20 series.

Fast bowlers Billy Stanlake and Riley Meredith return for the Pakistan ODIs, while spinner Tanveer Sangha has been included in both 50-over squads. Meredith will also stay on for the T20 leg in Bangladesh. Xavier Bartlett is among those named for the Bangladesh ODI squad, while left-arm quick Spencer Johnson returns for the T20 matches along with Aaron Hardie.

Maxwell and Stoinis were both part of the Australia side that did not progress beyond the group stage at the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
