Naval chief stresses constant combat readiness in maritime operations
Admiral Naveed Ashraf told a Pakistan Navy conference that constant combat readiness is essential to counter emerging maritime threats. He also stressed advanced technology acquisition and reviewed operational preparedness.

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf has underscored the need for sustained combat readiness to deal with both conventional and non-conventional threats in the maritime domain, according to a news release issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Navy).
He was chairing the Pakistan Navy’s Command & Staff Conference at Naval Headquarters, where he highlighted the service’s role in supporting peace, stability and maritime security in the region.
The naval chief said the Pakistan Navy was reassuring the maritime community through its presence in the Gulf of Oman. Against the backdrop of the ongoing situation in the Middle East, he pointed to emerging risks in the maritime sphere, including threats to freedom of navigation, the possibility of disruption to vital Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), and an unstable security environment across strategic choke-points.
Admiral Ashraf also described the acquisition of niche and advanced technologies as an absolute strategic requirement for the Pakistan Navy.
Conference reviews preparedness and priorities
According to the news release, the forum carried out a detailed review of operational preparedness, ongoing initiatives and upcoming events. Discussions focused on aligning naval priorities with changing regional maritime security requirements in order to define a clear path for operational preparedness across multiple domains of naval warfare.
The Command & Staff Conference is the Pakistan Navy’s top decision-making forum, where the Chief of the Naval Staff, principal staff officers and field commanders deliberate on strategic priorities and policy matters.
Tribute on first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq
The conference also marked the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq and paid tribute to the sacrifices made during the May 2025 conflict.
The naval chief said the historic triumph remained an enduring testament to national unity and the country’s unwavering resolve to defeat any external aggression with iron fist.
The statement said the conference combined a review of current readiness with deliberations on future priorities as the navy assessed evolving challenges in the wider maritime environment.
