Pakistan Army hits Afghan Taliban posts in Chaman

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army on Tuesday said it had responded to unprovoked aggression along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, targeting multiple positions held by Afghan Taliban forces in the Chaman sector.

According to security sources, the action was carried out under Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, which remains ongoing against what officials described as cross-border hostilities involving Afghan Taliban elements and militants referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Sources said Pakistani forces effectively engaged and destroyed several Afghan positions, including posts at Sarshan, Al-Marjan and Edhi Post, as well as a vehicle and other installations.

Officials said the armed forces remained committed to defending the country’s territorial integrity and would continue operations until all objectives under the campaign were achieved.

The latest escalation follows an incident on April 15, when three civilians, including two children, were killed and three others injured in shelling by Afghan forces in Bajaur district, according to state media.

Operation Ghazab Lil Haq was launched in late February after renewed clashes erupted along the border, triggered by firing from the Afghan side on multiple locations. The situation has since seen periodic escalations, including retaliatory strikes by Pakistan and a brief lull during Eidul Fitr.
