Two murder accused arrested after years on the run

LAHORE: Police said they have arrested two suspects who had been evading capture for more than a decade in separate murder cases.

According to officials, Abdul Hakeem police took into custody a suspect identified as Majid Qureshi, who had allegedly remained absconding for 14 years after committing a murder. Police said the arrest was made on the basis of intelligence information.

Officials said a team headed by SHO Rao Shahid tracked the suspect to an area in Multan and arrested him there.

In a separate operation, police said a team from Kahna police station arrested another fugitive, Rana Javed, from Jhelum district. The operation was led by SHO Chaudhry Mehmood.

According to police, Rana Javed had been on the run for 16 years in a case involving the killing of a retired female teacher during an attempted robbery in Lakkar Mandi. Officials said the suspect had been frequently shifting locations in an effort to avoid arrest.

Police described the arrest as a dramatic operation. They said both men had already been declared proclaimed offenders and were wanted in connection with the respective murder cases.

Separate police operations

The two arrests were made by different police teams in separate districts, according to officials. In the first case, police said intelligence-led efforts helped locate Majid Qureshi in Multan after years of evasion.

In the second case, the Kahna police team travelled to Jhelum district and arrested Rana Javed, who police said had been absconding since the killing of the retired teacher in Lakkar Mandi.

Officials said investigations into the cases were under way.

The arrests, according to police, brought an end to years of efforts to trace the two proclaimed offenders wanted in separate murder matters.
