PESHAWAR: A second police constable was abducted in Peshawar within the past 24 hours near the tribal border area.
The latest incident involved a policeman from Hassan Khel Police Station. Unidentified armed men kidnapped the constable while he was travelling along a village route.
The abduction took place a day after another policeman from the same area was allegedly kidnapped and later killed. The two incidents have prompted a joint response from law enforcement authorities.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police teams have launched a joint investigation into both cases. Following the latest incident, security personnel cordoned off the area and began a search operation aimed at tracing the attackers.
Investigation and search operation
Authorities have started inquiries into the abduction of both policemen, with CTD and police teams working together on the cases. Security forces also moved quickly after the second incident, sealing the surrounding area and initiating a search effort.
Funeral of slain constable held
Meanwhile, the funeral prayer for the policeman who was killed after the earlier abduction was offered at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.
A large number of senior officials attended the funeral, including CCPO Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, Commander 102 Brigade Brigadier Mubashir, SSP Operations Farhan Khan, senior Pakistan Army officers, divisional SPs, police officials, jawans, and relatives of the slain constable.
A police contingent presented a guard of honour to the mortal remains of the martyred policeman. Senior officers also laid floral wreaths and offered fateha for the departed soul.
The back-to-back incidents near the Peshawar tribal border have raised concern within the local police force, as authorities continue efforts to locate the abducted constable and investigate the killing of the other officer.
