PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Sunday presided over a high-level meeting of the Communication and Works Department at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, where officials reviewed ongoing as well as proposed road and infrastructure schemes across the province.

During the meeting, the chief minister directed the department to prepare a separate road infrastructure scheme for the merged tribal districts and include it in the forthcoming Annual Development Programme (ADP).

According to the details shared from the meeting, the proposed initiative is aimed at improving links between the merged districts as part of a broader effort to strengthen connectivity in those areas.

Afridi said, Enhanced connectivity in these areas will facilitate ease of movement for the people, accelerate socio-economic development and promote greater regional integration.

He also instructed the relevant authorities to speed up work on provincial motorway and expressway projects. The chief minister said practical measures were already under way for the development of an integrated road network across the province.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, Afridi said strong road networks provide the basis for sustainable economic growth.

Review of infrastructure projects

The meeting focused on both ongoing and planned projects related to roads and infrastructure in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The review was held at the Chief Minister’s House and involved a detailed discussion on the province’s development priorities in the communications sector.

The chief minister’s directions placed particular emphasis on the merged districts, with the proposed ADP scheme intended to improve interconnectivity among those areas. The meeting also underscored the government’s focus on major road projects, including motorways and expressways, alongside the wider goal of establishing a connected provincial road system.

The chief minister linked improved infrastructure with economic progress, saying that better road networks were essential for long-term and sustainable development in the province.

The review meeting formed part of the provincial government’s ongoing consideration of road and infrastructure planning ahead of the next development programme.
