LAHORE: Police arrested a man in Toba Tek Singh on Saturday after his wife filed a domestic violence complaint, triggering swift action through the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s Virtual Women Police Station.
According to a Safe City spokesperson, the complaint was received through the digital platform, where the victim sought urgent assistance. She alleged that her husband had subjected her to prolonged abuse and had also attempted to portray her as mentally unstable.
During the initial inquiry, the accused denied the allegations. However, video evidence submitted by the victim substantiated her claims, prompting immediate intervention by authorities.
In response, the Virtual Women Police Station dispatched a female police officer to the scene and assured the woman of full protection. A video call was also facilitated between the victim and the Safe City team through the officer present on-site.
The case was escalated to senior officials without delay, and the victim was referred for a medico-legal examination as part of the investigation process.
Police subsequently registered a case against the accused and took him into custody, while further legal proceedings are under way.
The Safe City spokesperson said women in distress can access the Virtual Women Police Station by calling the emergency helpline 15 and selecting option 2. Complaints can also be lodged via video call using the Safe City Public Safety App.
