The KP Assembly Secretariat has notified the appointment of several opposition MPAs to standing committees. The appointments cover key sectors including revenue, education, health, finance and climate change.

KP Assembly notifies opposition lawmakers for standing committees

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretariat has issued a formal notification appointing several opposition members to different standing committees of the provincial assembly.

According to the notification issued on Thursday, the appointments include lawmakers elected on reserved seats and are aimed at broadening representation in committees that examine government departments and policies.

Under the notification, Sattar Afridi has been named to the Standing Committee on Revenue and Estate, while Aamna Jaleel Jan has been appointed to the Higher Education committee.

Madina Gul Afridi has been included in the Relief and Rehabilitation committee, and Rabia Shaheen has been appointed to the committee on Climate Change and Forestry. Other appointments notified by the assembly secretariat include Nilofar Begum for the Information and Public Relations committee, Naheeda Noor for the Energy committee, Arifa Bibi for the Communications and Works committee, and Faiza Malik for the Law and Human Rights committee. The notification also names Afshan Hussain to the Food committee.

For the Health committee, Shazia Jadoon and Jamila Paracha have been included, while Farah Khan has been appointed to the Finance committee.

In addition, the Establishment committee will include Shazia Tehmas Khan, Mehr Sultana, Ashbar Jan Jadoon, and Khadija Bibi, according to the official notification.

Committee representation expanded

The appointments formally bring opposition lawmakers into a range of key standing committees of the provincial assembly. These committees are responsible for reviewing the work of government departments and examining policy matters within their respective areas.

The notification covers a broad set of sectors, including revenue, higher education, relief and rehabilitation, climate change and forestry, information, energy, communications and works, law and human rights, food, health, finance, and establishment.

The move, as stated in the notification, is intended to ensure wider representation in the committee system of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
