AWP Karachi protests fuel and gas price hike at Teen Talwar

KARACHI: The Awami Workers Party (AWP) Karachi held a protest demonstration at Teen Talwar on Sunday against rising fuel and gas prices and against what it described as the war imposed on Iran by the United States and Israel.

The protest was attended by AWP leaders, lawyers, students and representatives of other organisations. Participants chanted slogans against the increase in fuel prices and criticised the impact of the latest rise on the public.

According to the party’s leaders, the government was shifting the burden of inflation onto ordinary people while defending the increase in fuel prices in the context of the Iran conflict. They said the sharp rise in petroleum and gas costs had further strained household finances and deepened hardship for citizens.

The speakers at the demonstration said the increase in energy prices had worsened living conditions and added to public distress. They argued that the cost escalation was placing additional pressure on people already facing economic difficulties.

The protest also focused on regional developments. Demonstrators condemned the United States and Israel over the war on Iran, saying the conflict had disrupted the global economy and led to the deaths of thousands of innocent Iranians. They said the situation carried dangerous consequences for the wider region.

During the protest, the party’s leaders also criticised the authorities over governance and economic priorities. They accused the government of favouring lavish expenditure and following International Monetary Fund directives instead of taking steps to reduce the financial burden on the public.

The demonstration brought together political activists and members of civil society who voiced concern over both domestic price increases and the broader fallout of the conflict involving Iran. Protesters maintained that rising fuel and gas prices were intensifying the difficulties faced by citizens in their daily lives.

The gathering at Teen Talwar remained focused on demands for relief from rising energy costs, with participants calling for a reversal of the recent increases. The protest reflected anger over inflationary pressures as well as opposition to the regional conflict cited by the demonstrators.
