LAHORE: King Edward Medical University has taken disciplinary action against two trainee doctors in connection with the video scandal at Lady Willingdon Hospital after an inquiry committee submitted its recommendations.
According to the details reported by Dawn, Dr Aqsa Khan, an FCPS trainee, has been repatriated from Lady Willingdon Hospital to the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department with immediate effect. Dr Nadia Saleem, an MS trainee, has been shifted from Lady Willingdon Hospital to Lady Aitchison Hospital.
The action was taken following the findings of an inquiry committee formed under the chairmanship of the university’s dean. Official details said the committee included Prof Muhammad Imran, Dean Medicine and Allied and Professor of Medicine at King Edward Medical University, Prof Ali Madih Hashmi, Chairman of the Department of Psychology, Prof Saima Iqbal of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Prof Samia Saeed, Professor of Medicine.
The committee reviewed the circumstances linked to the video scandal and presented its findings to the administration, after which disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the two trainees.
Earlier, the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department had informed the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan that the Level-III training programmes of five PGRs had been terminated under Clause 13.2 of the Policy and Procedure Manual (PPM).
The reported action marks the latest administrative step taken in relation to the matter at Lady Willingdon Hospital. The measures against the two trainee doctors were carried out on the basis of the inquiry committee’s recommendations, while the earlier communication by the department concerned the termination of Level-III training programmes of five postgraduate residents.
No further details were provided in the report about the contents of the committee’s findings beyond the disciplinary measures announced against the two trainees and the earlier intimation sent to the PMDC and CPSP regarding the five PGRs.
