Missing teenage girl found 'married' to adult man

RAWALPINDI: A 16-year-old girl who went missing from her home in February has reportedly been forced into marriage with a 25-year-old man, leading police to take action under the Child Marriage Act.

Ratta Amral Police registered the case after the girl’s mother, Shamim Akhtar of Milad Nagar, filed a complaint. She said her daughter disappeared on February 21, 2026, taking Rs70,000, a gold chain, and a mobile phone.

According to the mother, a woman named Abida Bibi later contacted her, claiming that her son, Zahid Safeer, had lured the girl and conducted a nikah with her. Shamim Akhtar also alleged that several people, including Shehzad, Iqra, and Zahid’s maternal uncle Khalid, made threatening phone calls from different numbers, warning that her daughter and other children would be murdered if a police report was lodged.

Authorities have filed a case against the accused under the Child Marriage Act and for abetment, and an investigation is currently underway.
