Man loses Rs0.9 million in fraud incident

KARACHI: A young man in Gulshan-e-Iqbal was defrauded of Rs0.9 million after three men tricked him into handing over his ATM card, police reported on Sunday.

According to the complaint, the victim was waiting in line to withdraw cash when a man approached him, claiming his own card was malfunctioning and asking the youth to test it at the ATM. Once inside the ATM booth, two accomplices joined the first man.

The initial suspect took the victim’s card under the pretense of checking it, while the others distracted him. The card was secretly pocketed, and the victim, unaware, entered his PIN. The scammers falsely told him that his card had jammed. The victim only realized the fraud later, after the perpetrators had withdrawn Rs0.9 million between March 16 and 17.
