KP playing frontline role in war against terrorism, says CM aide Shafi Jan

PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Thursday stated that the province was playing a frontline role in the war against terrorism, describing KP as a "shield" for the rest of the country in the fight against militancy.

Addressing a news conference alongside provincial Finance Adviser Muzammil Aslam, Shafi Jan said the provincial government had allocated Rs31 billion to strengthen the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch, a move he said would help improve the law and order situation in the province.

Austerity measures amid global energy crisis

The CM's aide also said the provincial government was adopting exemplary austerity measures in view of the ongoing global energy crisis triggered by the Iran war. He highlighted the steps being taken by the KP government to manage resources prudently during the challenging economic environment.

Enhanced compensation for martyred personnel

Shafi Jan further disclosed that the compensation amount for martyred personnel under the Shuhada Package had been enhanced. He added that new police stations were being set up in the province as part of efforts to bolster security infrastructure and improve policing capabilities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The announcement of the Rs31 billion allocation for the CTD and Special Branch reflects the provincial government's recognition of the security challenges facing KP, which shares a long border with Afghanistan and has historically been among the provinces most affected by terrorism and militancy.

The news conference, held jointly by the information and finance advisers, underscored the KP government's dual focus on maintaining fiscal discipline through austerity measures while simultaneously investing heavily in the province's security apparatus to counter the persistent threat of terrorism.

By characterising KP as a shield for the rest of Pakistan, Shafi Jan sought to highlight the disproportionate burden the province bears in terms of security challenges and the sacrifices made by its law enforcement personnel in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
