Envoy says Pakistan–Iran trade continues smoothly despite regional tensions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Mudassir Tipu, on Tuesday said that bilateral and transit trade between the two countries remains fully operational despite ongoing regional tensions.

In a statement shared on X, the envoy thanked the Iranian government for providing “full facilitation” to Pakistan’s trade, including transit routes during what he described as “challenging times”.

Tipu noted that land border crossings between Pakistan and Iran were functioning optimally, with designated green channels at multiple points ensuring the swift movement of goods.

He added that Islamabad was also extending maximum cooperation to Tehran to maintain uninterrupted trade flows, while issues such as congestion at border crossings were being addressed through coordinated efforts.

The ambassador said the Pakistani embassy remained in close contact with both official authorities and private stakeholders in both countries to ensure smooth trade operations.

A day earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had thanked Pakistan for its “strong solidarity” amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to defending its sovereignty.

The conflict, which began on February 28, has since escalated into a wider regional confrontation, with missile and drone exchanges affecting multiple areas across the Gulf.

The situation has also disrupted critical maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, raising global concerns over energy supplies and the potential for prolonged economic and security fallout.
