Met Office predicts more rain and lower temperatures in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds swept through Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Sunday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and a brief chill to the twin cities. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has forecast additional showers in the coming days, with further decreases in temperature expected before Eidul Fitr.

The rain began early in the morning after Sehri and continued intermittently throughout the day. While the sun briefly broke through the clouds in the morning, rainfall resumed in the afternoon, affecting daily routines across various sectors of both cities.

According to data from the Met Office, Islamabad recorded 24 millimetres of rain at Saidpur, 9mm at Golra, 15mm at Bokra, and 20mm at Zero Point. In Rawalpindi, rainfall measurements included 15mm at Shamsabad, 14mm at Chaklala, 15mm at Pirwadhai, 13mm at Gawalmandi, and 17mm at New Kattarian.

A Met Office official stated that a westerly wave had impacted the northwestern parts of the country on Sunday, leading to the widespread rainfall observed in the region.

Residents in the twin cities experienced cooler weather as a result of the downpour, with many taking precautions against the rain. The Met Office has advised citizens to remain prepared for further showers and a continued dip in temperatures in the days ahead.
