Meghan Markle’s $250,000 Paris Trip Cost Comes Under Royal Scrutiny
Meghan Markle's recent $250,000 trip to Paris for a fashion show has come under scrutiny. Journalist Tom Bower's new book reveals insights into the costs and strategic implications of her appearance.

Fresh claims have emerged about the reported cost of Meghan Markle’s high-profile appearance at a fashion show in Paris, with estimates suggesting the trip may have reached $250,000 in expenses.
The details appear in journalist Tom Bower’s latest book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family, which examines the Duchess of Sussex’s evolving public profile and her influence within global media and fashion circles.
Paris Fashion Week appearance
According to the book extract, Meghan made a surprise appearance at a show hosted by luxury fashion house Balenciaga during Paris Fashion Week.
Bower claims the appearance was strategically planned as part of a publicity push following controversy surrounding the brand in 2022.
At the time, Balenciaga had appointed a new creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, who previously worked at Valentino.

Estimated cost of the Paris trip
While neither Meghan nor Balenciaga has confirmed the reported figures, industry estimates suggest several elements could have contributed to the high cost of the trip.
Travel is believed to have been the largest expense. A private jet flight between Los Angeles and Paris can cost around $200,000 for a round trip, according to aviation charter estimates.
Accommodation reportedly took place at the luxury Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris, where premium suites often start at around $2,500 per night.
Meghan was also accompanied by her glam team, including longtime makeup artist Daniel Martin, whose professional appearance fees reportedly begin at approximately $2,000.
Luxury fashion wardrobe
Fashion also played a central role in the appearance. During the event, Meghan wore two Balenciaga outfits — one black and one white — with industry estimates placing the value of the couture pieces at roughly $50,000 each.
Luxury brands often loan garments for high-profile appearances, though their value still reflects the scale of production surrounding major fashion week moments.

Celebrity appearances and brand publicity
The extract suggests Balenciaga viewed Meghan’s appearance as a way to generate global headlines and reposition the brand following earlier controversy.
Large fashion houses frequently spend significant sums on celebrity partnerships and front-row appearances.
Bower notes that high-profile brand relationships in the fashion world can involve far larger deals, pointing to reported multimillion-dollar collaborations involving actors such as Nicole Kidman and Chanel.
Sussex camp responds to author
Bower has previously faced criticism from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over his commentary about the couple.
In a statement issued earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said the author’s remarks had “crossed the line” and accused him of promoting unfounded theories about their lives.

The spokesperson added that those seeking factual reporting would “look elsewhere,” while critics of the book say the debate reflects continuing tensions surrounding the Sussexes’ departure from royal life and their move to California.
