KOHAT: Six alleged terrorists were killed in a joint operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police in the Lachi area of Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Sunday.
According to information from the CTD, intelligence reports had indicated that terrorists were present in various parts of Lachi and were planning a major attack. Acting on these reports, the CTD and police launched a coordinated operation to neutralize the threat.
During the operation, security forces engaged the suspects, resulting in the deaths of six alleged terrorists. The identities of the deceased have not yet been disclosed by authorities. Security personnel cordoned off the area and continued a search operation following the encounter to ensure there were no remaining threats.
This action comes amid a recent surge in violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In a separate incident, a blast near a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat recently resulted in the martyrdom of seven police officers.
Officials stated that the operation in Kohat was part of ongoing efforts to curb militancy and prevent planned attacks in the region. The CTD and police have increased their vigilance and presence in response to the uptick in terrorist activities.
Further details regarding the operation and the identities of the suspects are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
